Detail about the Folders in Squirrelmail

Along the left hand side of the SquirrelMail page is a frame that is titled folders. Below the Title is the day and time that the folders were last refreshed. If you have done some work in the folders you may want to freshen up the folders, to do this just click on the (Check Mail) link below.

In the area below folders are listed the names of the folders you are currently subscribed to. (More info on Subscribing to folders when Options is explained) here are descriptions of those folders.

Inbox
This is where all new email located when it first enters your mailbox. Click on Inbox and you will see all of the new mail in your Message List in the right hand frame. You can read the messages in the Inbox by clicking on the subject of the message.

Drafts
This folder is where you would store uncompleted emails and other mail not ready to send.

Learn FP
When you receive a message in your SPAM folder that is not SPAM, you should move it to this folder. The FP stands for "False Positive" which is a message that the server may have identified incorrectly as SPAM. When you move a message into this folder the Mail server will process it and adjust your personal filtering to allow the mail through to your inbox in the future. This does not guarantee that a similar message will make it into your Inbox.

Learn Spam
When you receive messages in your Inbox that are SPAM you should move them into this folder. During the nightly Email Server processing any email in this folder will be examined and new filtering information will be created. In the future messages with similar characteristics will be placed in the SPAM folder. This does not guarantee that similar messages will be moved to the Spam folder.

Sent
When you create and send an email from SquirrelMail a copy of the message is stored in this folder. You must manually remove messages from this folder by deleting them.

Spam
The EMCS.NET mail server has a program that it uses called Spamassassin, this program uses filtering methods to identify email messages that are considered to be SPAM. You control the filter by adjusting the "Spam Score". Any messages that fit into your Spam score will end up in this folder. You may want to look through this folder for messages that should not be in here. If you find any you can move them to the Learn FP folder (Read above). Messages are stored here for 14 days and then they are discarded during the nightly processing.

Trash
This folder is where any and all deleted messages go from all the other folders. When there are messages in this folder you will see purge) next to the folder name. To empty the folder just click on the (Purge) link. Because of the volume of Trash that is left in the folders, as of May 1, 2007 al mail in the trash folder older then 14 days will be purged.l
